biography
Born in Chesapeake Bay, Virginia in the late 90's, and swiftly uprooted to be raised in the Show-Me State of Missouri, Anna Noel offers a unique perspective in the conversation of contemporary art; constantly swarmed with new inspiration and explosive ideas. Heavily influenced by the effects of bright colors, surrealist works, and contemporary culture, Anna spends her studio time pushing the relationship between warm and cool colors as well as experimenting with materials. By using lighting design and local color in multimedia-sculptural installations, her work produces a surreal feeling of an alternate reality, separate from the viewer’s current state of being. Anna explores her childhood experiences as well as the intricacies of modern American culture. Now living in Atlanta, Georgia and working towards her Sculpture MFA at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Anna has debuted her work in many cities across the United States including Atlanta, New York City, Kansas City, Raleigh, Los Angeles, and London.

artist statement
My artistic practice is rooted in the process of freeing myself from my own ideas, and my work is the result of that liberation. Many of my concepts arise from an introspective exploration of personal objects. My work revolves around storytelling through narrative objects that resonate with others on a universal level. Although my primary focus is three-dimensional work, I employ whatever medium serves the concept best. I’ve found success in dynamic digital creations, found objects, oil paint, and hand-felted fiber, allowing each piece to emerge through the most fitting medium.
People often view being an artist as liberating, yet the only true liberation found in creation is from oneself. As creatives, we are often held captive by the ideas that reside within our minds. These unrealized concepts drain our energy like a parasite, demanding to be brought to life. The act of giving form to these ideas is the ultimate release, a freedom I strive for everyday in my studio.
